Episode 5: The Homefront

 — Begin Entry
It's been a crazy 6 weeks. For our efforts, Kamel'Ha, Byron, and I received field promotions to Ensign. I've learned now, not to treat simple missions as "cakewalks". I tried asking Kamel'Ha what a cakewalk is, and she couldn't quite explain it. I asked Okoye, and she said that it's some sort of ancient Earth game involving cake. But she didn't know the rules.

On the latest mission, we were on Minos Korva and the Cardassians attacked. All hell broke loose and I had to get the transceiver operational so that we could boost comms to reach orbit and contact the Agrippa or Cairo.

We were able to get in contact with Captain Smith, and he advised us that the Cardassians had a foothold 3 kilometers to the north of us in town. He ordered us to take them out so that we can retake the area. I had no idea what we could do on the ground that they couldn't do from orbit at the time. We're taking heavy losses on the ground.

Byron got shot while arguing with Lars on the first floor of the building I was assembling the transceiver. We, and by we, I mean me came up with an idea to create a sonic disruptor to use against the Cardassians hold up in the building to the north. Checking maps of the area, we think it's the Academy of Arts.

The sonic disruptor worked excellently and all the Cardassians fled the building without destroying anything in the building. Apparently, the disruptor was a bit too high powered and it caused many burst eardrums and possibly some other hemorrhaging.

Inside the admin office, we found some art pieces that were due to be displayed at an upcoming major exhibit for the sector.

Kam & Byron found some squiggles on some of the art pieces. While they were trying to piece together info & patterns, I took Lars with me to investigate the rest of the building. We found the disruptor remains of a pad in an elevator.

Once we got back to the Agrippa we had our debriefing. The patterns and squiggles we found on the planet actually contained the Cardassian battle plans for the region. Based on the intel we gathered, Lt Cmdr Taneko thinks we'll be able to take the Cardassians out within the next few days despite their greater number.

All this activity has weighed heavily on me. I think I'm going to find someone to relax with.
